Crafters and Artisans Market

MVA2009 Please join us at the 17th Annual Crafters & Artisans Market, set for Saturday, October 10th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gates-Fourth United Methodist Church, located at 1234 S. Fourth Street. Proceeds benefit the Merion Village Association.

This year there will be a wide variety of craft vendors, a White Elephant Sale, the Silent Auction, and a Best of Merion Village Bake Sale, featuring a variety of homemade desserts from our Merion Village bakers. On the subject of food, we will have hot dogs, brats, chips, and beverages again this year from Vinny’s Hot Dogs and Brats.

Vendor items this year include longtime favorites such as theme gift baskets offered by the St Leo Preservation Society (sale proceeds help pay for the continuing renovations at St Leo Church) and the wide variety of items that Mary Lou Leonard offers at Mama Lou’s Country Store. Sarah Roell is back again with All ScARFed Up, featuring handmade dog scarves and other accessories. Cheryl Blazek will be selling her Hearthside soaps and sundries, and Karen Bradford will be selling her purses, handbags, pillows, and pillowcases.

Another favorite back this year are the 4H Urban Achievers, a neighborhood 4H group led by community activist Kerry Riggs. Kerry tells us that this year her 4Hers will be selling homemade buckeye candy, buckeye necklaces and jewelry as well as homemade knit hats. Their sales support the 4H kids with their wide variety of activities, including maintenance of the Walker Bruck Pocket Park.

New this year is UigWare: crocheted accessories, including shawls, stoles, sashes, scarves, small purses, and sacks, with afghans, leggings, and mittens available by special order. Other vendors will be selling jewelry and other crafts, and the Merion Village Association will be selling 2010 memberships and providing information about the Merion Village neighborhood and local activities in South Columbus neighborhoods.

The 4H Urban Achievers are busy collecting items for our Silent Auction, but we can always use more. If you would like to donate to the Auction, or you know of a business or someone who would like to donate an item, please contact the Association at 614-444-3144.

If you plan on doing a little cleaning and would like to donate your gently-used items to our White Elephant Sale, be sure to bring the items to Gates-Fourth on Friday, October 9th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. only. Donations will not be accepted any other time.

Proceeds from the Crafters and Artisans Market benefit the Merion Village Association. The money we raise helps us keep our Merion Village Information Center open, plus it helps us pay for our printing of neighborhood publications, and our website and online newsletter. So, if you can contribute to the event in any way, or if you have any questions concerning the event, please call 614-444-3144 or email crafters@merionvillage.org.
